Ok, so my professor at school gave this as an assignment. Create a blog & reveal how I use the internet. So here I go!
I started using a computer in high school. I learned the ins & outs of a computer the first time I went to college in Amarillo, TX in 1994. I shared a computer lab with the man who became my husband!
As technology changed, well, so did the way we used it. My husband & I have had an email account since 1998. When I found myspace.com, naturally, I signed up. Same thing with Facebook. I use facebook the most. I do shop occassionally, (& I mean occassionally!), predominantly on ebay.
My family(for the most part) is plugged in to some sort of social network. A lot of them are on facebook with me. This includes my mother. I love it because I can keep up with all of them.
That being said, I do have some tech-resistant friends. They avoid it out of fear of unknown persons phishing them or stealing their identity. Of course, some, like my husband, resist things like facebook b/c of the hassle of keeping it updated.
I don't think the divide is so great between people like myself that use social networks online to keep tabs. Most people have cell phones with texting capability. I can't think of one person in my circle of friends & family that don't carry a cell phone. I think the gap is closing. As technology changes, society as a whole must adjust & adapt. I think business owners will benefit the most by using social networks to promote their businesses.
My experience overall has been fun! There have been a few run-ins with people who haven't remained respectful & have slandered me & others. I delete those type of people. But I really enjoy catching up with so many people.
This assignment has been a blast! Really!
